PAR Program visits to physicians’ offices reveal helpful tips that are shared with the medical profession through the College’s newsletter (The Messenger) and on this website.
We invite all Alberta physicians to contribute to this growing list by contacting the PAR Program through the Director of Practice Improvement.
  • Physicians should post a notice for patients advising them of their right to request a chaperone during sensitive examinations.

For example: "Please Tell Us … if you want a friend or a member of our staff to be present during your examination."

  • It is the physician's responsibility to make his or her role clear to the patient in respect of providing continuous and comprehensive care. Failure to do so can lead to failures to follow-up and lost opportunities to prevent or to mitigate the effects of disease.

  • Lab results identified as "critical values" stored at the front of the chart serve as a reminder of special risks for this patient.

  • An office visit dedicated to medication review is frequently rewarding for both physician and patient.
